 about

In my current work I aim to investigate and bring attention to ecological issues dealing with the disruption in the balance of the organic world caused by human existence. I began this series to research organisms that were endangered or threatened due to an imposing human presence. I discovered and explored many different species that are facing a variety of challenges. Some are being hunted to extinction while others are being captured and sold as pets, or infected by carcinogenic substances being dumped both legally and illegally into their environment.

By combining stringent texturalization, attention to minute details, and muted colors, I am creating pieces that are almost memorializing those endangered specimens, thus preserving them forever. It is not my goal to single out a specific member of any of these species, rather it is my intention to highlight each group for its own specific story that has been overlooked or ignored.

By combining the permanence of fired clay, and the fleeting qualities of watercolor, I intend to highlight both the perpetuity and the evanescence of an endangered or threatened species, and the impact that the negligence of humanity has had on this world.
